What ranks can play together in VALORANT?
In a duo or trio it depends on the lowest rank in the group: Iron and Bronze can queue with up to Silver, Silver with up to Gold, Gold with up to Platinum, and from Platinum up you can only be one tier apart. A full party of five can be any mix of ranks, at the cost of a Rank Rating reduction.
Duo and trio rules
- Iron and Bronze
- Can queue with players up to Silver.
- Silver
- Can queue with players up to Gold.
- Gold
- Can queue with players up to Platinum.
- Platinum and above
- At most one tier higher, division for division — Platinum 2 can queue with up to Diamond 2, but not Diamond 3.
- Immortal 1 and above
- Can only queue solo, as a duo or as a full party of five. Trios are not allowed at this level.
Why you can't queue as four
Four-player groups are blocked in Competitive at every rank. Riot's reasoning is the fifth player: dropped into a team of four friends, the solo player tends to have a miserable game.
Parties of five: any ranks, but less RR
- Everyone Ascendant 3 or below
- No rank limit. If the group's ranks are further apart than the duo and trio rules allow, the team takes a 25% RR reduction.
- Any Immortal in the group
- A 25% RR reduction for the team.
- Any Radiant in the group
- A 75% RR reduction for the team, and a 90% reduction for the players in it who are below Radiant.
Unrated and Swiftplay
These limits apply to Competitive only. Unrated, Swiftplay and the other casual modes let any ranks queue together.
Common questions
Can Bronze play with Gold in VALORANT?
Not in a duo or trio — Bronze can only queue with players up to Silver. You can play Competitive together in a full party of five, or play Unrated and Swiftplay, where rank doesn't matter.
Can Silver play with Platinum?
No, Silver can queue with up to Gold. Silver and Platinum players can only play Competitive together in a full party of five.
Can Gold play with Diamond?
No, Gold can queue with up to Platinum, so a Gold and a Diamond player need a full party of five to play Competitive together.
Can Platinum play with Diamond?
Yes, if they are no more than one tier apart division for division: Platinum 1 with up to Diamond 1, Platinum 3 with up to Diamond 3.
Can Immortal players duo?
Yes. From Immortal 1 up you can queue solo, as a duo or as a full party of five — but not as a trio.
Do parties of five get less RR?
A party of five whose ranks are spread wider than the duo and trio rules allow loses 25% of its RR, as does any party with an Immortal player. With a Radiant in the group the reduction is 75%, and 90% for the players below Radiant.
